The last bus

Marina looked at her phone again: 9:47 p.m. The library was closing, and the lights were turning off one by one. She put her books in her backpack quickly and ran down the stairs.

Outside, the street was empty and wet. She stopped at the bus stop, breathing fast, and saw the red lights of a bus disappearing around the corner.

Marina sighed and sat on the bench. Then she opened her backpack, took out her math book and started reading under the street light. "At least the exam is tomorrow afternoon," she whispered.
